New Earning Opportunity

I recently fell into a new opportunity that I'm pretty excited about. One of our local museums has a research program that requires observations, surveys, and focus groups. They posted a call for new people on one of my yahoo groups and I was accepted. I get made fun of for belonging to this group (it's a mom's group and I'm not a mom) but I've gotten so many great opportunities there.

I'm looking forward to spending time at the museum and stretching my research skills. I'm also looking forward to the $18/hr salary. It's not something that's frequent, but it's more than most of my snowflaking opportunities.

How do you get into something like that?

The best way for me to find new opportunities has been to have a wide network. This one came from a local yahoo group. I belong to a lot of groups and keep my eye open for opportunities.

To what sort of groups do you belong? I got into a couple of Focus Groups by sheer chance - my Grandma say a sweepstakes in the paper, and I went on to the advertised site to sign up, and signed up for their newsletter on a lark - Javaplum, if you're interested - and got invitations to two focus groups they were holding when they wanted to branch their newsletter out just by chance. To what sort of network do you belong?

Another way to get involved in focus groups is to visit http://www.findfocusgroups.com. Unfortunately (for me) many of the opportunities are in large cities. I'm an avid mystery shopper and find out about some of the focus groups through some of the mystery shopping companies too.

What are some legitimate mystery shopper organizations?
